The devices registered to the Soihtu network receive a public IP address, and therefore they can be contacted from anywhere on the internet. The university firewall limits the traffic somewhat, but the main responsibility for your own devices’ information security is on the tenant themselves. Tenants are responsible for e.g. keeping their operating system up to date, meaning that its information security updates have been completed.
If a tenant’s computer causes harm to the Soihtu network, access to the said computer can be denied. These kinds of situations include, for example, infected computers that are used to spread viruses or mass spamming. If this kind of infected computer had been taken offline, the tenant should take care of cleaning the computer and only after this can the computer be connected back to the network. Acquiring an antivirus software helps with protecting your computer.
