Device address, i.e. MAC address

Device address or MAC address (ie Ethernet address or Physical address) is the unique identification code of a device operating in a data network. A MAC address consists of twelve characters in groups of two characters.

When the resident fills out the registration form, the form normally recognizes the MAC address of the contacting device. In these cases, please do not fill out the MAC address field as the manually saved address does not take effect, only the recognized MAC address.

The registration stores this MAC address together with the resident's contact information. Soihtu's registration to the broadband network means registering the MAC address. The registered device is given an IP address that can be used to connect to the internet.

The MAC address is the identifier of the network adapter

Strictly speaking, many devices have several different MAC addresses. The MAC address is the identifier of the network adapter. In the past, the network adapter was a separate additional device (add-on card) in a computer or other data network device, but nowadays it is usually integrated as part of the device's other electronics.

Routers have a separate network adapter for outgoing traffic (the router's WAN port, i.e. Internet port), in addition to that, the LAN ports intended for connecting your own devices usually have a common network adapter, and a third adapter is for using the router's wireless connection (WiFi).

A laptop usually has two network adapters, one for wireless connection (WiFi) and one for wired connection (Ethernet). These network adapters have their own MAC addresses. There are fewer problems with computers regarding the MAC address when registering a connection.

If your laptop doesn't have an Ethernet cable connection, you can get a separate usb-ethernet adapter that plugs into the computer's usb port. This ethernet adapter has its own MAC address.
