Name Server

As information networks work with the aid of IP addresses that are difficult to remember, a name server, i.e. domain name system (DNS), has been created in order to solve the problem. DNS changes an address that is easy to remember into an IP address (e.g. the IP address of www.kortepohja.fi is 37.233.93.240). This way, the users do not need to remember the difficult number sequences, as they can study the intuitive addresses.

A service that is available online can also be moved to another location by combining its name with a different IP address if the use continues with the same name. Overall, the name server makes internet use remarkably easier, but it is not an absolutely necessary tool. Kortex network also has its own name server.

More information about the name service can be read, for example, on Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_server
